Norwich announces students attending RYLA

NORWICH – On Thursday the Rotary Club of Norwich announced the selection of four students who will participate in the 37th annual Rotary District 7170 Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Conference this summer.

Norwich High School juniors Erin DeVinne, Erica Gage, Carson Maynard, and Matthew Giglio will join 110 other students from high schools across south central New York for the RYLA Conference held at SUNY Oneonta, this year from June 30 to July 3.

For the selection process, students were tasked with submitting an application and a 30-second video introducing themselves, before being interviewed by six members of the Norwich Rotary.

Norwich Rotary Chair Victoria Mitchell shared that the interview process is a way to get to understand what the students are hoping to learn from a leadership conference, what community means to them, and what these students are planning for their future. After the interviews, the committee meets and makes its selections.

Every year the RYLA Conference aims to develop the leadership potential of young people.

The conference will feature speakers, programs and workshops focused on decision making, critical thinking, effective communication, time management, ethics, career development, public service, contemporary problems and other challenging issues.
