NORWICH – City of Norwich Alderman David Zieno announced his candidacy for re-election as City of Norwich Ward 5 Alderman on Friday, after filing petitions with over six times the required signatures.

"I am asking voters for another term so I can finish the job I started," said Zieno, who is running on the Democrat and No New Taxes ballot lines. "My top priority for a second term is applying for the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) award from New York State, which would be a $10 million economic development grant for downtown Norwich."

Other priorities for Zieno include spearheading an effort to designate the City of Norwich as a Clean Energy Community, which would allow the city to apply for state grant opportunities to convert municipal buildings to solar power to save taxpayer dollars, and a pledge to work with the newly formed non-profit organization Improve Norwich Now to improve housing conditions in the city.

In announcing his candidacy, Zieno outlined his accomplishments since taking office in January 2016:

• Stopped out of control property taxes and kept city budgets under the tax cap. From 2013-2015, tax increases totaled 16% compared to just 3% from 2016-2018.
