Storm two, two-run innings fall short of win against Walton

WALTON – The Storm tallied two runs in the top of the third and fifth innings but it wasn’t enough for the road win as the Walton Warriors claimed a one run win over Unadilla Valley.
Walton scored a run in each of the first five innings and Ethan MacNamara held the Storm off from scoring another run in UV’s last two trips to the plate.
McNamara took the mound in the sixth inning and recorded four strikeouts for a two-inning save, allowing no base runners during his time on the hill.
Nick Lamoreaux, the Warriors starting pitcher, tallied eight strikeouts for the first five innings, giving up just one hit and two earned runs. Lamoreaux also did his job at the plate. With a lead-off double in the bottom of the fifth, he set himself up into scoring position to take the lead.
Lamoreaux was advanced to third on a single by Kyle Wright before he scored on a wild pitch. He finished with two hits in three trips to the plate.
The Storm scored their four runs in two innings of play on just one hit that was recorded by Cameron Osborne.
In the top of the third, UV’s Kyler Butts was hit by a pitch and Andrew Jackson drew a walk in back-to-back at-bats. Facing two outs in the inning, Tim Postma stepped up to the plate and sent a hard ground ball to the first baseman.
With the fielder unable to come away with the clean play at first, Postma reached on an error and Butts crossed home plate.
Jackson scored from third on a while pitch for the second run of the inning but Lamoreaux got of the from with a third-out strikeout.
Brandon Kneale and Jackson started the top of the fifth off with two walks for the Storm. Osborne’s hit came in the next at-bat as he drilled a line-drive out to center field. Jackson came in on the RBI single. Kneale scored prior to the hit on a wild pitch.
Jackson got the start for UV, tossing four innings. He had eight strikeouts and surrendered four hits. Osborne relieved him in the fourth and threw two strikeouts while allowing two hits for Walton.
The Storm are off until Wednesday, April 24 due to spring break recess. They will travel to Sidney for the 4:30 p.m. Wednesday game.
