Norwich takes all singles matches to claim win over Yellowjackets

NORWICH – All four Purple Tornado singles players earned wins Friday afternoon, carrying Norwich to 4-3 win over the Oneonta Yellowjackets.
In first singles, Nate Christopherson defeated Oneonta’s Riley Catan in straight sets. Christopherson only gave up one game in the match as he walked off the court with his second win of the 2019 season.
Matt Giglio of Norwich improved to 3-2 on the season as he defeated Max Madey of the Yellowjackets at No. 2 singles for the match. Giglio won back-to-back sets by scores of 6-3 and 6-0.
Zac Marsh played at third singles in the match and topped Abigial Thorsland 6-3 and 6-1 while teammate Michael Zung won at fourth singles in shutout sets.
The only match won by Yellowjackets players was at first doubles. Aidan Mackey and Tony Cortes of Oneonta defeated Norwich’s Jon Ryan and Vaughn Rudy in the first set 6-4. The two teams were tied at 3-3 in the second set when the rain came down, ending the match.
The other two wins for Oneonta came as a results of Norwich forfeits in second and third doubles.
Norwich will look for their second straight win, third of the season when they host Windsor Tuesday afternoon.
