Trojans strike in bottom of sixth to beat Sidney 4-3
Bobcats use early offense to defeat Afton
GREENE – The Trojans had some late game drama but secured their third straight win in the bottom of the sixth inning when Greene’s Grayson Flanagan scored on a wild pitch thrown by the Sidney pitcher. Greene came away with the 4-3 win after holding a rallying visiting Warriors team to no runs in the top of the seventh.
Sidney threatened in their last at-bats of the contest as Levi Greene started the inning with a lead-off single.
The Trojans Trenton Rapp rung up Peyton Mosher but walked Mike Gravlin to put two Warriors on the bases.
Kolby Finch made a big play at third base for Greene to get the second out of the inning and keeping the runners at bay. Rapp walked Sidney’s Corbin Constable on four straight pitches, loading the bases for the Warriors’ Nick Gravel.
Looking to get revenge after his wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth, Gravel wasn’t going to go away easy in his at-bat. With the first three pitches being balls, Gravel took the next pitch to make a 3-1 batters count. Rapp gave him a pitch that he was able to put in play but Greene’s Nick Shoemaker fielded the ground ball and got the third out to end the game.
Greene got out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning when Logan Kennedy doubled on a 0-1 count with two outs against the Trojans and scored Shoemaker from first.
Kennedy scored later in the inning on error after back-to-back walks filled the base paths for the Trojans. Sidney got out of the inning before any other damage was done as Rapp was thrown out on his steal attempt.
The Warriors cut the lead down to a run in the top of the second inning but Greene added another run on Rapp’s infield single, taking a 3-1 lead.
Sidney responded in the top of the fourth and fifth innings but both teams were held scoreless until the Greene’s game-winner in the bottom of the sixth.
Kennedy was the winning pitcher for Trojans, starting on the hill and putting in six innings of work. He allowed seven hits and three runs while striking out eight Sidney batters. Rapp threw one inning in relief to earn the save.
Constable started the game for Sidney, surrendering three hits over three and a third innings, striking out two. Gravlin came in for the last out of the fourth and pitched the entire fifth inning. He allowed just one hit and struck out three in his time out on the mound.
Gravel, however, took the loss for Sidney, allowing one run while striking out one.
Greene finished the game with four hits as Rapp led the offense with two hits in three at bats and one RBI. Kennedy also had a RBI for the Trojans.
Constable and Devon Johnson each collected multiple hits for Sidney, each having two in the game as the team ended with eight. Both Constable and Johnson had a double as one of their hits.
Greene (4-3) hosts Norwich for a non-league contest Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

BAINBRIDGE – The Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats got the bats started early on offense Wednesday afternoon, taking the victory over Afton 10-2.
In the first inning, the Bobcats going as Evan Hyzer singled on a 1-1 count, scoring Garrett Ives. Hyzer scored later in the inning on a passed ball to make the score 2-0. Afton’s Brody Oleksak got Trent Thorton to look at the third strike of the at-bat to end the inning.
Bainbridge-Guilford put up another three runs in the bottom of the third when a single by Haiden Burns and an error on Trevor Ross’ ground ball to the third baseman gave the Bobcats two base runners. Burns scored on a passed ball.
Ives registered his second run of the game when he scored on Owen Drown’s hard grounder to the shortstop. Ross scored earlier in the same at-bat due to an error by Afton, extending the B-G lead to 5-0.
The Crimson Knights cut the margin down to four runs in the top of third when Michaek Roach sent a line drive to right field, scoring Nick Bagg from third.
Afton’s Ernie Cutting scored the team’s second run of the game with his solo home run shot to right field.
The Bobcats, however, added two runs in the fourth and three in the sixth to earn the 10-2 win.
Drown was the winning pitcher for Bainbridge-Guilford, lasting six innings on the hill. He thre four strikeouts while allowing four hits and one earned run. Hyzer came in for the final inning, striking out all three batters faced.
Oleksak took the loss for Afton, giving up five hits over four and a third innings. He struck out seven Bobcats in the process.
Ives led B-G at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Drown also had two runners batted in during the contest.
The Bobcats (2-2) travel to Harpursville on Saturday for an 11 a.m. game time. Afton (0-4) is off until Wednesday when they travel to Greene. Game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
