Greene stays perfect on season with win over Warriors
GREENE – The Trojans’ Olivia Kennedy improves to 4-0 on the season as she pitched seven innings in the circle for Greene in their 16-1 victory over the Sidney Warriors on Wednesday.
Greene jumped out to a commanding lead in their first trip to the plate, scoring two runs on McKenna Sergi’s line-drive double to centerfield.
Later in the inning, after Sergi scored on a passed ball, Kennedy helped her own cause by crossing home plate for the fourth run of the frame.
Back-to-back pop-outs ended the offensive rally for the Trojans. The home team added another two runs in their next at-bats, making the score 6-0 at the end of two innings of play.
In the top of the third, Sidney got on the scoreboard when Hannah Gray sent a screaming two-out line-drive to right field that brought Sarah Bessett into the score.
Greene responded to the one run scored by the Warriors in the bottom half of the inning but secured the win in the fourth, extending their lead by adding eight runs.
Alex Brown had a triple that scored two during the big offensive inning for the Trojans while Payton Yahner added another three-base hit in the next at-bat.
Sergi ripped a line-drive to right field, scoring Yahner from third, and was able to get around the base paths to record a home run.
Both Brown and Sergi finished with four RBIs, each having three hits in the contest. The Trojans finished with 15 hits as a team.
Kennedy allowed eight hits but struck out nine Sidney batters in the win.
