Lady Blackhawks pick up third win of season in convincing fashion

DELHI – The Oxford Blackhawks got off to a good start against Delhi Monday afternoon, tallying eight runs in their first trip to the plate. The Blackhawks added another 10 runs to their lead over the course of the next six innings of play as they went on to claim the 18-4 road victory.
Oxford’s head coach Ed Holmquist said his pitcher, Karly Marshman, was a forced to be reckoned with as the Blackhawks’ starting pitcher recorded a career best nine strikeouts in the game. Marshman completed the game, tossing all seven innings for Oxford.
“She had great control in the circle, helping lead us to the win,” said Holmquist.
The Blackhawks also did a lot of damage with their bats, racking up 14 hits in game. Marshman helped her own cause with her performance at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a RBI and three runs scored.
Also having three hits in the game for Oxford were Allison Beckwith and Karley Miller. The two combined to total seven RBIs and teammate Jessie Howe added another three runners batted in. Oxford totaled 15 as a team.
Lilie Horton and Howe also had multiple hits, each recording two.
In the first inning, all Blackhawks in the batting line up stepped up to the plate while five saw the batter’s box for a second time in the inning. The top of the third, Oxford once again went through the line-up during the offensive attack to score four.
Delhi spread their four runs across the fourth, fifth and seventh inning. The Bulldogs used six hits to tally their runs.
Oxford is now 3-2 this season and will face Walton at home on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

NEW BERLIN – Deposit’s Makenzie Stiles tossed a no-hitter as her team scored 18 to take down the host Unadilla Valley Storm Monday, 18-0.
Unadilla Valley struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Deposit as the Lumberjacks fired up the offense in the first inning. Stiles, a University of Pittsburgh commit, singled on a 0-2 count to help her own cause in the circle. That base hit scored Deposit’s first run of the game.
Stiles struck out 16 Storm batters on her way to the win.
The Storm’s Meegan White and Emily Hill broke up the perfect game bid for Stiles when they drew walks. Both Hill and White battled during their at-bat against Stiles, each facing a full-count before heading down the first baseline.
Mia Stirone threw 148 pitches over the six innings on the rubber during the the loss for UV, 76 of her pitches were strikes.
Deposit collected 24 hits on the day and scored at least one run in each of the six innings.
Unadilla Valley hosts Unatego Tuesday as they will look to bounce back. Game time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
