Woman arrested in drug raid pleads guilty and may be facing federal charges

NORWICH – A Norwich woman pleaded guilty to fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and may be facing federal charges after police raided her apartment and found items including approximately four pounds of meth, a handgun, and $35,625 in cash.

Cheyanne D. Moore, 22, of Norwich was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A felony, and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class B felony.

In Chenango County Court on Monday, Moore pleaded guilty to fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony, and admitted that on December 17, 2018 in 93 East Main Street in the City of Norwich, she was in possession of 68 bags of cocaine with the intent to sell it.

As part of her plea bargain she will be sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison, with three years of probation.

District Attorney Michael Ferrarese said Moore is not required to testify against her co-defendant, Corey Weidman, but the federal government may ask her to do so in future court appearances.

“I believe the defendant is facing federal charges,” said Ferrarese. “Upon sentencing the federal government will move on a warrant for her and will take her into custody.”

He said Moore’s plea wouldn’t reduce the amount of time she may face on future federal charges, and the federal government may ask her to testify against her co-defendant at that time.

According to Chenango County Sheriff Ernest Cutting, after executing a search warrant on Weidman’s and Moore’s apartment with the help of New York State Police and the Norwich Police Department police discovered approximately 1.8 kilograms (approximately four pounds) of crystal methamphetamine, 3 ounces of cocaine, 4.5 ounces of marihuana and other drugs including, LSD, MDMA, and Suboxone strips. Police also recovered approximately $35,625 in cash, a loaded handgun, and seized a 2004 Honda Civic.

In court, Moore agreed to forfeit her claim to the $35,625 in cash as part of her plea.

Moore’s sentencing date is scheduled for June 28 at 9:30 a.m. at Chenango County Court.
