NEW BERLIN – The Unadilla Valley Storm Track and Field team held their only home meet of the season, competing against five other Midstate Athletic Conference schools Wednesday afternoon.
Sidney came away as the top team on the boys side, scoring 145 points as a team while the girls meet was won by the Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats with 129 points.
The Warriors placed first in just four events but it was their athletes placing in the top six that helped carry them to the win for the boys. The Bobcats’ boys team came in second place with 110 points while the home Storm track and field team finished in third place.
UV’s Josh Nogaret and Ben Avolio were joined by B-G’s Nick Petrutoni and Sidney’s Kevin McEwan as the only four athletes to win two individual events.
Nogaret captured the top spot in both the 1600 meter and 800 meter races while Avolio took home first in the 400 meter race and the 200.
Petrutoni secured first place points for the Bobcats with wins in the 100 meter dash and the long jump. Petrutoni’s time in the quick race was 11.3 seconds, beating out Sidney’s Liam Matthews by a tenth of a second.
Matthews didn’t leave the meet empty handed as he came in first for the 110 meter hurdles event with a time of 16 seconds.
McEwan won both of the throwing events, launching the discus 101 feet and tossing the shot put 41 feet-8.25 inches.
His Sidney teammate on the girls side Lindsay Fredrick did the same in the MAC meet. She finished first in the discus with a distance of 86 feet-2 inches and tossed the weighted ball 36 feet-1.5 inches. Her two first place finishes were the only by the Warriors for the girls meet.
To score their 129 points to win, B-G’s girls team won eight events and were led by the four individual wins from Erica Selfridge. Selfridge came in first in the 100 and 200 meter dashes on the track and both the long jump and triple jump for field events.
Her distance running teammate Ethne Degan crossed the finish line first in both the 800 meter and 1500 meter events.
Unadilla Valley placed second as a team, coming away with 111 points. UV used many second place finishes in the meet to tally their team total while Kyleigh George and the 4x800 team of Sierra Schrag, Paige Catena, Rebecca Ruffino and Kadence York picked up wins for the home team.
Oxford’s Kaitlyn Ingraham was the long Blackhawk to win first in an event, winning the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:19.4. She and teammates Emma Barbosa and Milla Gonzalez finished in second place for a total of eight events to finish as a team in third place with 107 points.
Greene’s Madison Rice won the 400 meter events with a time of 1:06.2 and the 4x400 meter relay team took first place for the Trojans. Greene tallied 61 points in the meet.
UV honored a total of 14 seniors prior to the start of the meet. All teams in attendance will be in action later this week.
