Greene and Lady Crimson Knights come away with wins on the diamond
NEW BERLIN – The Unadilla Valley Storm held a 2-0 lead over the Lady Crimson Knights after the first inning but Afton got their bats in the top of the second. From there, the Crimson Knights cruised to a 15-7 over host Unadilla Valley Monday.
The Storm did fight back later in the game, scoring runs in the last four innings of play but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Afton lead.
Unadilla Valley got on the scoreboard first, using back-to-back doubles by Kirsten White and Teresa Burgharct. Meegan White crossed the plate when sister Kirsten knocked a line-drive to centerfield. In the next at-bat, the favor was returned for Kirsten White as Burgharct hit a pop fly to center.
However in the next inning, Afton collected two hits and drew four walks, scoring five runs in the second. The Crimson Knights made the score 9-2 in the top of the third, recording another four hits – including doubles by Taylor Schultz and Madison Baciuska – to score four runs in the inning.
Afton finished the game scoring another six runs four the remaining four innings of play. The Crimson Knights racked up 12 hits the high-scoring affair. Schultz and Baciuska were joined by teammates Samantha Schoelier, Makaela Mills and Olivia Harris-Morris as all batters recored two hits each in the win. Schoelier added the only triple for the Afton squad.
Unadilla Valley’s Kirsten White also had a triple during the contest as she went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate. The Storm finished the day with five hits in the loss. Burgharct and Izora Ramsey collected the other two hits, both being recorded as doubles.
Olivia Harris-Morris earned the win for Afton. She surrendered seven runs on five hits over seven innings, striking out 13.
Mia Stirone took the loss for Unadilla Valley Storm Varsity. She lasted six innings, allowing 12 hits and 15 runs while striking out four.
Both teams host their games on Tuesday. UV will see Hancock on their home field while Afton takes one Walton. Both games are schedule for a 4:30 p.m. start time.

HANCOCK – In one of their closest game of the year, Greene held on for the win, despite Hancock’s late-game attempt to comeback in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Hancock scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth, cutting the Lady Trojans lead down to just three runs. However, Greene’s Olivia Kennedy came into the circle in the bottom of the seventh to shut down the home team in their last at-bats.
Eighth-grader Payton Yahner did most of the work as she toed the rubber for the first six innings, picking up second win of the season. Facing a little bit of trouble in the bottom of the six, Yahner was able to get out of the inning without any other damage done, setting up her teammate Kennedy for the save.
Greene’s McKenna Sergi picked up four hits – one of which was a double – and five RBIs to lead the offensive during the win. Teammate Alex Brown added a two-run home run in top of the third inning, sending the ball over the left field fence. Her dinger put Greene up 7-2 in the frame.
Brown finished the game with two hits, three RbIs and two runs scored. Baileigh Estabrook also crossed home plate scored twice and had recorded hits for the Trojans.
Hancock’s Laycee Drake also hit a home run for the home team in the loss.
