Blackhawks’ score 20 runs in senior night win
OXFORD – The Oxford Blackhawk seniors went out on their home with a bang, scoring 20 runs on 14 hits in the 20-8 win over Midstate Athletic Conference foe Bainbridge-Guilford Wednesday afternoon.
Brad Beckwith – one of Oxford’s five seniors – led the team at the plate as he came away with three hits in four at-bats, producing an RBI and scoring four runs in the game.
Senior teammates Jason Davis and Josh Christian recorded two hits each in the win and combined for a total of six RBIs, sending three across the plate a piece.

The Blackhawks started the game with two runs in the bottom of the first to take the early lead. However, the Bobcats responded but scoring three in the second.
Tom Palmatier of B-G sent a screaming line-drive to centerfield. His single resulted in Owen Drown coming in for the second run of the inning. Palmatier later stole home for the final run of the inning.
Evan Hyzer scored first for the Bobcats, crossing the plate on an error during Palmatier’s at-bat. Hyzer added to Bainbridge-Guilford 3-2 lead in the top of the third when he drilled a fly ball to left field on a 1-2 count that went over the fence for a three-run home run.
Oxford answered in the bottom half of the inning by batting through the order and scoring six runs, taking the lead back by two runs. The Blackhawks used three hits, two walks and several miscues by the Bobcat’s fielders to score all six of their runs. Beckwith, Davis and Nolan Dodzweit had the hits in the inning.
B-G added a run in the fourth and seventh innings but Oxford’s bats were just too much as they rallied to score four more runs in the fourth. The home team extended their lead with five in the fifth and three runs during their final at-bats of the game.
