Lady Trojans top Walton 18-0, clinch No. 2 seed in MAC tournament
WALTON – Returning to their winning ways, the Lady Trojans came away with their ninth win of the season behind a 18-0 victory over the Walton Warriors Saturday morning.
The win for Greene clinches the second-seed for the Midstate Athletic Conference championship tournament, which is scheduled to begin on Tuesday afternoon.
Olivia Kennedy of the Trojans tossed a two-hitter against Walton, striking out 11 during her time in the circle for the complete game shut-out.
Offensively, Greene’s senior McKenna Sergi reached a milestone in the fifth inning when she stepped into the batter’s box. Coming away with her second hit of the game in the frame, Sergi recorded her 100th hit of her career. She finished the day going 2-for-5, scoring three runs.
Sergi also recorded three RBIs in the contest. Joining her in the stat column were colleagues Alex Brown and Katelynn Pratt, each sending three runners across home plate in the victory.
Greene will host Harpursville at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday as one of the two semi-final games. The other contest is between top-seeded Deposit and the fourth-seeded Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats. The winners will meet on Thursday for the MAC Championship game at the location of the higher seed.
