Final of four in gang assault sentenced
NORWICH – A man who pleaded guilty to assault charges was sentenced to a year in jail on Monday after he and three others assaulted a victim, leaving the victim semi-unconscious beneath a car with a fractured eye socket and some of his teeth knocked out.
Hunter J. Speenburgh, 19, pleaded guilty to second-degree assault on March 20, and he was sentenced to a year in jail on Monday after the victim advocated that he only receive probation.
The victim was in the courtroom at the time of Speenburgh’s sentencing, but District Attorney Michael Ferrarese spoke on the victim’s behalf.
“The victim is here today with his family,” said Ferrarese. “They really wanted this defendant to be placed on probation, but he has opted for the year in jail instead.”
