Greene softball crushes Newark Valley behind Kennedy’s No-Hitter, Scott’s two round-trippers

SIDNEY – Greene got a no-hitter from freshman Olivia Kennedy and a pair of two-run homers from eighth-grader McKenzie Scott, powering a 14-1 Section IV Class C softball quarterfinal victory over Newark Valley Wednesday.

Kennedy struck out 14 and walked three. Her only blip came in the top of the fourth Marissa Berghorn walked to open the inning and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Berghorn then stole third base and scored when the throw went awry.

Kennedy struck out the final five batters she faced.

Scott’s first homer came in a bottom of the first inning that saw the four batters reach base. Her line shot thunked the scoreboard behind the left field fence and plated McKenna Sergi ahead of her. Sergi preceded Scott by tripling home Alex Brown and Kylie Ferris with the first two runs of the game.

Greene didn’t score again until the bottom of the fifth when they sent fifteen batters to the plate and piled up ten runs on seven hits, four walks and a hit batter.
