Grand Jury indicts man who allegedly assaulted correctional officer

NORWICH – A Chenango County Grand Jury indicted six for felony charges, including a man who allegedly assaulted a correctional officer in prison and did approximately $1,500 worth of damage to a cell door.


Kyle J. Nowalk, 21, of Smithville Flats was indicted on second-degree assault, a class D felony, and third-degree criminal mischief, a class E felony.

According to his indictment, on March 5 while in the Chenango County Correctional Facility, Nowalk intentionally caused approximately $1,500 worth of damage to cell door B-3, in housing Unit B by kicking it. It states that two days later, at about 6:30 a.m. on March 7 while in the Chenango County Correctional Facility, Nowalk struck a correctional officer in the head with a blunt object causing the officer to receive a concussion, with lacerations to their head.


David J. Bovee, 49, of Norwich was indicted on second-degree burglary, a class C felony, and fourth-degree grand larceny, a class E felony.


Allegedly, on May 3 while on State Street in the City of Norwich, Bovee unlawfully entered a residence with the intent to commit a crime, whereas he stole a safe containing $1,200 in United States currency from within.
