Greene High School announces top seniors
GREENE – Greene Central School recently announced its top three seniors for the Class of 2019. Alyssa Ninita Acunto is Valedictorian, Claire Therese Moxley, Salutatorian, and Mallory Anne Fowler, the Superintendent’s Award recipient.
Alyssa Ninita Acunto
Acunto has been the class treasurer since middle school while also participating in Student Council, Interact Club, and National Honor Society. She was also vice president of the yearbook committee and was a member of the field hockey team, receiving the Scholar-Athlete Award the past two seasons. Alyssa has also been a member of Step Up & Dance for the fifteen years and was named Star Dancer last year.
Alyssa, the daughter of Dante and Laurel Acunto, will attend Ithaca College in the fall.
Claire Therese Moxley
Moxley, an Honor Society member since her sophomore year and president her senior year, has been a member of the Envirothon Club, Gay-Straight Alliance, and chorus. She is also a member of the Interact Club, serving as its vice president her junior year and president this school year.
A High Honor Roll student throughout her high school years, Claire has received Faculty Key Awards in both U.S. and Global History, a Citizenship Award her freshman year and chosen to attend Girl’s Leadership Day in Albany last year. For the past three years, she has tutored younger students in various subjects.
She is also a lifetime member of the Immaculate Conception Church, where she is a part of the Circle of Friends, an elder outreach program.
Moxley was also a standout on the field hockey pitch, where she was a four-year varsity member, earning four Section IV Division I all-star accolades, as well as All-Tournament team and MVP recognition. She was co-captain of the field hockey team her senior season.
Claire, the daughter of Joseph and Joanne Moxley, will be attending the University of Vermont, where she will play field hockey while majoring in speech language pathology.
Mallory Anne Fowler
Fowler earns the Superintendent’s Award for having the third highest grade-point-average in the Class of 2019. She was treasurer of National Honor Society and a member of Interact, Mock Trial and Odyssey of the Mind. A High Honor Roll student throughout high school, Mallory was also chosen to attend the HOBY Leadership Conference in 10th grade (and has returned as a staff member every year), selected to go to the state capital for Girl’s Leadership Day as well as New York Empire Girl’s State in 2018.
During her senior year, Mallory was a member of the New Visions Law and Government course through Morrisville State’s Norwich campus.
Other academic awards she earned are the University of Rochester Frederick Douglas and Susan B. Anthony Leadership Award in 2018, was feted at the SUNY Oneonta Business and Education Partnership Scholar Recognition ceremony in May 2019.
Mallory was also president of the junior class and prom committee, vice president of chorus, a member of Footlights and played volleyball, wrestling and tennis. She earned NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete status for wrestling and has been very active in her community and church.
The daughter of Bill and Jennifer Fowler, Mallory will be attending Binghamton University’s School of Management for business administration.
Greene Central School’s Commencement Exercises will be held on Saturday, June 29, at 10 a.m. in the middle/high school gymnasium.
