Fate of Sherburne slaughterhouse uncertain

SHERBURNE – Sherburne town officials are hazy about the future of a proposed meat processing facility initially approved by board members more than four years ago.


In the spring of 2015, the town green-lighted an idea to build a $20 million meat processing facility along County Road 23 in Sherburne. The business model projected the creation of 100-150 new jobs in the area.


Town officials said the project – which had been spearheaded by a company called All In Meats, Inc. – fell apart in 2016, citing financial barriers which prevented All In Meats from following through. The original proposal sought a 100,000 square foot beef butchering facility, adjacent to Curtis Lumber on County Road 23, capable of processing roughly 350-500 cows per day.

Now new plans of a slaughterhouse are being pitched to the town's planning board by the site owner, Jim Webb, who notified board members that he's researching the feasibility of a meat processing facility that would likely satisfy the same requirements of the initial project approved in 2015.
