NORWICH – The board of directors and the CEO selection committee of Commerce Chenango announced Monday that Kerri Green will become Commerce Chenango’s new president and CEO.

Organized in 1959, Commerce Chenango is a not-for-profit, community based organization dedicated to enhancing the economic growth of Chenango County and the surrounding area.

Steve Craig, the current president and CEO who has been with the organization since August 2011, is set to retire later this year. Green resides in Sidney with her husband, Blake, and their daughters Rachael and Grace. Kerri will officially join Commerce Chenango on August 12.

“This was the most intense hiring process I’ve ever been through,” said Green. “But I understand why, because it’s such an amazing opportunity, and I’m so incredibly proud and excited to be able to make a difference.”

She said she hopes to be able to continue the work that Craig has done for the past eight years, and she added that she plans to reach out to Commerce Chenango membership when she officially becomes CEO.

“I think my first priority is to meet with the current membership and talk about their needs,” said Green. “From there I want to look at expanding our membership base and encourage others to come to our meetings.”

“I also want to work on attracting and retaining businesses and employees in our area.”

According to Commerce Chenango Director of Communications and Tourism Audrey Robinson, Green is a U.S. Army Veteran, is no stranger to Chenango County; for over a decade she worked in sales and marketing at CDO Broadcasting (WCDO Radio) in Sidney.

“She was an active Commerce Chenango volunteer helping to develop programming, volunteering at numerous events, and working to help increase membership, serving as an ambassador and even received the Commerce Chenango “Volunteer of the Year” award in 2011,” said Robinson. “In addition to her volunteer work in Chenango County, Green has served on the Sidney Central School District Board of Education for over 12 years and is currently serving as President.

“She is a past president and current director of the Sidney Chamber of Commerce; has served on the Delaware County and Otsego County Chamber Boards; is a graduate of Leadership Delaware; and worked on various committees to promote the local economy through programs, events and advocacy.”

“I am thankful for the opportunity to lead an amazing organization like Commerce Chenango,” said Green. “I feel so honored that the board has chosen me to continue the forward momentum of the county. I look forward to working closely with the business community, local organizations and our partners to achieve economic growth. We can do this by working together to grow our business profile, encouraging innovation, attracting and retaining a solid workforce and growth of programs that will positively impact the county.”

Robinson said Green has also worked as the senior assistant to the president, assistant secretary to the board and coordinator of campus rentals and events at Hartwick College in Oneonta.

She said during her tenure at Hartwick College, Green worked closely with the senior administration and the board of trustees on many projects and initiatives regarding board organization, policy creation, strategic planning and program development.

She added that in her role as coordinator of campus rentals and events, Green created an alternative source of revenue for the college by developing a program to rent unused campus space and overnight accommodations in the dorms during the summer months.

Chair of the Commerce Chenango Board and Selection Committee Charlie Andrews also spoke on the new CEO and said, “The selection committee went through a rigorous process, interviewing a field of candidates before deciding on Kerri. We believe she will take us in a dynamic new direction. It was a great honor to be part of and lead the search and selection committee. The interview process was taxing, and the professionalism of all candidates was outstanding. Congratulations to the team for their dedication and focus on such a critical position in the community.”

“Kerri’s combination of professional performance, life experience, and education have prepared her to succeed as Commerce Chenango’s next leader. Her energy and enthusiasm will serve the community well” said Craig. “Member services, economic development efforts and strategic planning will be priorities on Kerri’s agenda, and I look forward to working with her during the transition.”
