NORWICH – An international rodeo competition is coming to Norwich for the Chenango County Fair this weekend, with prizes, rankings, and more on the line for local and national contestants.

According to Millennia-Entertainment Representative Terry Potter, for the first time in Chenango County history International Bull Riders, an organization established in 2001 that has sanctioned hundreds of events around the world, will come to the fair.

The event will be at 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, at the Chenango County Fairgrounds.

The Chenango County fair kicks-off Today and will continue through Sunday, Aug. 11 at the county fairgrounds in Norwich. A parade will pass through Norwich tonight at 7 p.m., heading to the Fair Grounds.

Potter said he hopes the organization will bring an added level of professionalism to the fair event. He said each year IBR pays over $100,000 in prize money and awards.

“We’re going to have local and regional contestants going head to head against some of the best riders in the industry,” said Potter. “The IBR maintains a point standing on their website, so those who perform well locally could be recognized all over the world for hard work.”

“I think having a group like the IBR sanction a local event is going to bring more notoriety to the area, and ensures for more comprehensive regulations for the event.”

He said children five and under will be able to see the rodeo for free, and those who purchase tickets ahead of time will save a third of the ticket cost.

“We’re trying to make the event as cost friendly as possible so local families can come out and enjoy it,” said Potter. “Those who purchase tickets ahead of time will get them for $10, and those who purchase them at the gate will pay $15.”

Tickets are currently available for the event at Norwich Copies Plus, M&T Bank, the Chenango County Fair Office, and at brownpapertickets.com.

“If last year is any indication of what to expect this year, it should be a full grandstand,” said Potter. “We look forward to seeing everyone at the event.”
