Greene to host 100th Labor Day Picnic

GREENE – The 100th annual Greene Labor Day Picnic is slated for Monday, with a variety of events scheduled including a hose fight, tractor pull, chicken bbq, and 5k run.
According to event organizers, the opening ceremony will be held on Monday, September 2, at the Ball Flats in Greene.
Hose fights will kick off the event at 8 a.m., with Midway Rides and Stuff the Bus with Supplies opening at 9 a.m.
Beginning at 10 a.m., a chicken BBQ will open, along with exhibits by the Greene Garden Club, Greene Historical Society, Microd Club, and a car show.
The parade will begin at 10:15 a.m., with a horse show at 10:30 a.m., and opening ceremonies at the ballflats at 10:45 a.m.
At the ceremonies officials said proclamations will be presented by Assemblyman Clifford Crouch, Senator Fred Akshar, Village Mayor Phillip Brown and Town Supervisor Pete Raymond. Followed by a dedication of the mosaic wall made by Greene Central School kids under the direction and guidance of Emily Jablon at 11 a.m.
Other events that will start at 11 a.m. include the tractor pull, bingo, free bus shuttle to and from the Great American Lot.
At 11:15 p.m. there will be a step-up and dance recital, with kids games starting at 11:45 a.m. and the 15th annual duck race at noon.
Beginning at 2 p.m. there will be a pie eating contest, and an elvis act will follow it at 2:30 p.m.
From 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. there will be more bingo, and starting at 3:45 p.m. there will be a 100 years of fashion show.
Officials said there will also be live music all day, with free face painting, and fireworks at 8:45 p.m.
