UV and OV fall in close games
WINDSOR – Winning their second straight game, the Norwich Lady Tornado soccer game scored seven goals in back-to-back games to win 7-2 against the Windsor Black Knights Monday afternoon.
Norwich head coach Doug Coggins state that it was a much closer game than the score showed against the much improved Windsor team.
“You have to give a lot of credit to the Windsor coach,” said Coggins. “The head coach has put a good group of girls together who are fast and aggressive.”
With the Purple Tornado’s slow start defensively – both back line and midfielders – the Black Knights came away some clean, easy looks at the goal.
Once the Norwich team began to pick up the pace, forward Sydney Coggins opened the scoring with a near-post shot that went between two defenders and into the goal. The Tornado finished with four goals for the night – increasing her season total to 11.
Adding goals of their own were Sara Davis, Emily Davis and Taylor McCarthy.
Sara Davis received a ball from senior teammate Katie Gawronski and finished the play with a nice shot. Emily Davis’ solo run ended with far post placed ball for her goal scored.
Using her power, McCarthy took a dead ball from 30 yards out and fired it into the back of the net.
Halea Eaton, who was once again on the field, was distributing the ball to the wings and ended the game with two assists on the night.
Coach Coggins noted both Janae Evans and Jordan Hess did a great job with the fast wings of Windsor and each blocked a shot during Monday’s game.
Next up for Norwich (2-3) is Seton Catholic on the road Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

MADISON – The host Blue Devils of Madison controlled the possession for nearly the full 90 minutes of play Monday afternoon but the Otselic Valley Lady Vikings kept up defensively, allowing just one of the many attempts to cross the goal line. However, as OV was unable to get any pressure on Madison’s goalie, the Vikings fell by a final of 1-0.
The Blue Devils fired a total of 21 shots at Otselic Valley’s Lexi Hazzard throughout the duration of the game. Hazzard stopped 14 while the other six that did not find the back of the net went wide or high of the goalposts.
The lone goal of the contest came from Madison’s Jordan Mayne. OV’s head coach Lori Wood said it was a beautiful, well-placed shot from Mayne that was simply a tough one for Hazzard to get to.

The Lady Vikings’ efforts paid off with 5:56 left in the first half as Cassidy Will put her first of two goals past the M-E keeper, cutting the opponent’s lead down to one.
