Chenango Sheriff's Office: Man stabbed coworker and fled scene

OTSELIC – The Chenango County Sheriff's office responded to a stabbing in the Town of Otselic Wednesday, after a co-worker stabbed another during an argument.


Police later arrested Howard C. Williams, 49, from the Bronx, for felony assault. The victim is in stable condition.


According to information provided at the Town of Smyrna Court during Williams' arraignment, the defendant admitted he stabbed the victim but claimed he was trying to defend himself after being attacked. The court remanded him to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office on $10,000 cash bail.


However, police said Williams overreacted to the incident by stabbing the victim and that he fled the scene.

Chenango Sheriff Ernest R. Cutting said the men were working together and cutting wire when a conflict broke out between them.


“There was a conflict and he (Williams) overreacted to it.”
