GILBERTSVILLE – Otselic Valley’s Garrett Wood and Lane Adams had a connection in Monday’s 5-0 win over host Gilbertsville-Mount Upton. The two Vikings either assisted or scored on four of the team’s five goals in the contest while the rest of the team’s passing and teamwork helped set up the big non-league win for OV.
“[The Vikings] boys worked well together today,” said Otselic Valley head coach Jake Preston. “We had a lot of great passing in tight spaces and we had many guys [Braden Davis, Lane Adams, Garrett Wood, and Evan Baker] do a great job having a purpose with their passes.”
Preston also stated his defense of Carter Smith, Daren Grabow, Brandon Brown and Max Akers helped goalkeeper Cody O’Hara keep the ball out of the net. O’Hara stopped eight shots from reaching the back of the net before being subbed out by Gavin Hazzard for the final 20 minutes of play.
OV’s Dakota Hackett put his team on the scoreboard first after a missed clear found his right foot and he one timed the ball past GMU’s keeper.
Wood scored the next one on the assist from Adams for the second goal and the two switched roles for the third and final goal scored in the first half.
The two second half goals came from Adams to record his hat trick for the contest while Wood delivered both passes to his teammate.
GMU’s Dalton Prosteine played in the goal for the home team and stopped 10 shots in the loss.
Next on the schedule is a road game for the Vikings as they take on league opponent Stockbridge Valley Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

CLINTON – Facing off against the Center State Conference Division-I champions of 2018, the Clinton Warriors, the S-E Marauders knew what they were in for and were well prepared for their opponent. However, Sherburne-Earlville fell 2-1 to the defending champions on a last minute goal Monday night.
“We changed our formation and tactics going into the game,” said Marauders’ head coach Michael Rodriguez. “I think we frustrated Clinton with our tight defensive shape that limited them to taking shots from outside the penalty area.”
Prior to the halftime intermission, the Warriors took the advantage when Clinton’s Matthew Lewis was taken down in the box and was awarded a penalty kick that he converted for the 1-0 score.
With six and a half minutes remaining in the game, S-E’s counter attack succeeded as the Marauders forced a defensive turnover to create an opportunity for Nate Morgan to tie the game at 1-1.
A well-timed chip pass over the Marauder’s defensive back line found a streaking Ethan Carr of the Warriors. After the perfectly timed run by Carr, he rifled a shot past S-E’s keeper John Oley with a minute remaining to score the game-winner.
Oley had a large part in keeping the game close for Sherburne-Earlville as he finished the game with 14 saves between the posts.
The Marauders (2-3-1, 2-1) look to rebound from the first league loss of the year as they travel to Holland Parent for their fourth divisional game of the season Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
