Lady Tornado runners snag hardware from Megan Sorbera Invite

EDMESTON – The Lady Tornado ran through the tape at the Megan Sorbera Invite, taking home the first place trophy with all runners placing in the top 11. The Norwich boys finished second, coming in behind the Sidney Warriors Cross Country team by a slim margin of four points.
The Tornado’s Adrienne Vedder crossed the finish line first out of all runners at the invite, aiding the the team’s win. She raced to a time of 20:07, 29 seconds ahead of teammate Grace Bookamer.
Robyn Diehl ran to a time of 21:21 to place sixth while Macey Montgomery (23:23) and Lexi Slate (23:48) were the next two runners to finish, placing seventh and eighth respectively.
The final runner for the Lady Tornado to cross the finish line was Raegan Clarke, clocking a time of 33:42.
For the boys’ side of the invite, the first three runners to finish were wearing a purple Norwich top as Makaio Sutton was the top runner for the meet with his time of 14:32. Steven Kaman was second, just two seconds behind his colleague Sutton and 21 seconds ahead of teammate Julian Roque.
Zander Sutton was the Tornado’s next runner to break the tape, running the course in 18:22 while Sean Eaves and Zach Russell placing three and four spots back. Kyle Vanderwyde rounded out the Norwich team, finishing in the top 25 with a time of 22:48.
Because points are based on the top five runners and the places they finish, Sidney captured first place with the team coming in at fourth, fifth, ninth, 10th and 11th place to add up to 39 points. Norwich had a total of 43.
The Tornado head to the McDaniel Baxter Invitational on Saturday, a meet hosted by Chenango Valley. The running is set to start at 9 a.m. at the Warriors’ high school.
