NORWICH – The second Saturdays in the Park with Chobani is this weekend, with officials still seeking corn hole competition participants and teams.
According to Saturdays in the Park with Chobani Coordinator Mindy Chawgo, over 30 local businesses attended last weekend’s event, and will return with a variety of goods including pumpkins, organic produce, honey, and more.
Chawgo said the events will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for six consecutive Saturdays ending on October 19 at Norwich’s West Park.
“Last weekend was a great success, it was nice to see so many familiar faces downtown for this year’s very first Saturday in the Park,” she said. “At this point we’re still looking for more corn hole teams to compete this weekend so if anyone else is interested in participating in a great cause please reach out to us.”
She said its supposed to be a beautiful weekend weather- wise, and that she hopes people will come out and experience some of the new vendors and events this year.
“A lot has changed, we’ve got more vendors this year, and we’ve branched out to the farmhouse field too,” she said. “We are so excited that people are going to be able to shop local for all their fall needs right in their own community.”
She added that vegetables, baked goods, decorations, sandwiches, and coffee among other items are all provided by local businesses and will be available at the event.
“Most of all we want people to know that in our community we have many talented vendors that work hard and with our support we can make their business thrive,” said Chawgo. “Chobani is again sponsoring this great event and handing out free yogurt every single Saturday.”
She said along with handing out yogurt, Chobani has done an excellent job marketing the event. She hopes people will take advantage of this opportunity to come out and support local businesses.
She added there will be other events people can take part in, including a corn hole tournament which people can still sign-up for.
“We also have two amazing young women that will be performing in the park,” said Chawgo. “Lily Stoddard and Kayleigh Currie are great performers, and we hope people come out to hear them play.”
Chawgo said the two have a band named “2 for Tomorrow,” and that they have performed several times at the New Berlin Farmer’s Market. They’re playing this weekend and weekends 4, and 6 throughout the whole event.
This event is brought to the area in part by the Norwich Business Improvement District.
