GILBERTSVILLE – The Major's Inn in Gilbertsville is gearing up for its 25th year of quilt shows at the historic 55 room inn, which is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Attendees can enjoy the quilt show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on October 4 and 5, with another show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Event organizers said for the first time this year's featured quilter is a man named Jim Bryden. They said a stonecutter by trade, he became interested in quilting years ago, when he became bored during the long winter months. Since then he has branched out from simple quilts to art quilts.
Officials said his quilts are colorful and bold, and he is always willing to try his hand at new ways to quilt. He has had over two dozen trunk shows which he enjoys. Each of his quilts has a story, and he is happy to share. They said the quilter is 81 years old, and feels that quilting keeps him young.
