Chenango County’s fire departments host open houses

CHENANGO COUNTY – Fire departments all around Chenango County will host their open houses as part of fire prevention week and residents are invited to attend their events.


According to Norwich Fire Department Chief Jan Papelino, Norwich’s open house and annual fire prevention night will start at 6 p.m. this Thursday at the Norwich Fire Station.


Papelino said open house activities will include hose the house, a variety of fire extinguisher demonstrations, an auto extrication demonstration, live fire demonstrations, and the fire safety trailer demonstration.

“Firefighter Kristen Schussler has put a lot of effort into making this another great year for people to come out and enjoy,” he said. “We’ve included some new activities this year and we’ve brought Sparky the mechanical dog back.”


He added that the Norwich Fire Department will also be visiting Norwich schools throughout the week to educate kids on fire safety and why it’s important to have a fire escape plan.


Papelino said Curtis Lumber has generously returned to provide supplies that help make the event possible each year.
