Bobcats remain perfect in match play with three-game win over Delhi

BAINBRIDGE – Continuing to be undefeated in regular season play for the year was the Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats Volleyball squad as the host team defeated the visiting Delhi Bulldogs 3-0 Tuesday evening.
B-G topped Delhi in the first game 25-12, allowing the most points scored against them for the match in the opening set. In the next two, the Bobcats held the Lady Bulldogs to six and seven points to secure the three-game set win.
Erica Selfridge served up 10 aces in the win along with setting up eight assists. Makenna Clark led the net game for the Bobcats, coming away with nine kills in the match. Selfridge added four while Sara Cannistra also scored four points in the match with the spike attempts.
Sasha Lamoree led the team in assists, dishing out nine to go along with her seven aces and teammate Taylor Parsons recorded four aces during the B-G victory.
Delhi was led by Riley Davis’ five digs.
Bainbridge-Guilford (9-0, 6-0) will look to make in 10 straight wins this season when the Bobcats travel to Greene on Thursday for a 5:30 p.m.

NEW BERLIN – The Storm volleyball team swept the match against Walton Tuesday, edging out the visiting Lady Warriors in the three sets by two or three points for the 3-0 win.
The first set between the two ended with Unadilla Valley winning 25-23. Had Walton scored one more point before the home UV team reached 25, the two teams would have gone into the win by two situation to end the set. The Lady Storm, however, closed out the game securing the 25th point to send the match into the second set.
The next two sets ended with the same score of 25-22 in favor of the Unadilla Valley team, giving the Storm the home conference win.
Melanie VanValen and Makaylie Canfield each had four kills for UV and VanValen combined with Kate Conway and Megan Harris to give the team 13 aces in the match.
Leading the Lady Strom defensively was Gabby Cummings with seven digs while Canfield added six more in the win.
Walton was led by Hailey Gardner and Emma Walley at the net as each finished the night with five kills a piece. Gardner also had five aces in the loss and teammate Tianna Gladstone added an additional five aces.
Unadilla Valley hosts Oxford on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

OXFORD – The Lady Blackhawks secured the 3-0 match win at homeTuesday but not without a fight from the Lady Spartans of Unatego. Oxford topped the visiting team in three straight sets with scores of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-19.
Maddy Howe and Madalyn Barrows led the offensive attack in Oxford’s fourth win of the season as the two had nine kills and four kills respectively. Howe added four aces and Barrows finished with three of her own along with three digs.
Adding to her four aces served for points during the match, the Blackhawks’ Mallory Olsen-Nichols set her team up for six points with assists. Colleague Daysha Simpson dished out four while defensively, Oxford was paced by Lilie Horton’s eight digs.
Unatego’s Eske Reuter had two aces and two kills in the loss. Mikaila Herbst added another two aces for the Spartans and Lyllian Belcourt had an additional two kills.
Oxford (4-5) is looking to reach a .500 record for the season in a much anticipated match between the Blackhawks and the Storm. During the 2018 season, the teams met three times and saw each go the best-of-five game distance.
The game on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. is the first meeting between the two teams.

HANCOCK – The Lady Hornets stole the second game of the match from the host Deposit-Hancock Eagles, forcing at least a fourth game. With hopes of reaching the fifth and final game to determine the winner, Harpursville/Afton fell to the home team 25-21 to end the match on the losing end of the 3-1 score.
The Eagles won the first set by a slim margin of two points (25-23) but the Hornets came out strong in the second game to win 25-13.
Answering the second set loss, Deposit/Hancock took game three with a score of 25-17 before holding off Harpursville/Afton in the fourth.
Sophi Gove, the Hornets set up player, finished the match with 24 assists in the stat column. Leading the way at the net and on the receiving end of most nearly half of Gove’s passes was Mallory Carman as she had 10 kills in the loss.
Kylie Manens ended the night with 18 kills while teammates Olivia Harris-Morris and Caidence Ryder each had two blocks. Stefanie Allen aided with seven points for the Hornets by serving up aces in the match.
Deposit/Hancock was led by Noel Picozzi’s six kills.
Harpursville/Afton participates in the “Dig for a Cure” tournament at Dryden on Saturday. Action begins at 9 a.m.

SIDNEY – The Midstate Athletic Conference match between Sidney and Greene needed all five games of the best-of-five match to see the host Lady Warriors come away with the win.
Sidney won the first set 25-16 but the Lady Trojans Volleyball team took the next two games, setting up the chance to record their first win of the season.
The host Warriors held Greene off in the fourth game, winning 25-23 and forcing the determining fifth set.
Coming out fired up, Sidney took the final game 25-11 to take the match victory.
The Trojans held tough behind Juliana Ayres six kills and 48 digs throughout the five-set match. Also having a big night defensively for Greene was Mubetcal Adiguzel with 30 digs.
Shelby Holt had a full statline in the loss for the Trojans, ending the night with five aces, four kills, one assist and six blocks at the net.
Sidney’s Baylee Jones had a huge serving night for the home team, coming away with 20 aces. She added 10 kills to lead the team with a double-double for in the match win.
Greene, who is still seeking the first win of 2019, hosts Bainbridge-Guilford on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
