Village of New Berlin to close road and spend more than $170k on repairs

NEW BERLIN – The Village of New Berlin will close West Street on Thursday to allow for underground pipe repairs after engineers determined that it needed immediate attention.

According to Village of New Berlin Mayor Terry Potter, village officials voted to accept a $173,000 bid earlier this month, and the construction company handling the work estimated that the project will be completed around Thanksgiving.

Potter said the project will not result in raised taxes, as costs will be paid using reserve money.

“Back in the spring, one of the edges of a culvert under West Street collapsed,” said Potter. “We called in engineers and contracts to take a look at it, and based on their assessments it needed immediate attention.”
