Village of New Berlin makes Hyde Park improvements

NEW BERLIN – The Village of New Berlin is pleased to announce a number of improvements to Hyde Park.
A new spiral slide, resealing and stenciling of the basketball court, a new portable hand washing station, and the repainting of the gazebo.
The six foot spiral slide was purchased through a grant. Youth Commissioner Michelle Priola and Clerk and Treasurer Kelly Anderson collaborated in the writing of the grant. The $6,446 grant was awarded to the village through the generosity of the R. C. Smith Foundation. The Village of New Berlin DPW carefully installed the slide during the final week of October.
The basketball court sealing and re-stenciling was funded by a Walmart Community Grant through the Norwich Walmart. The Community Grant purchased the sealant and the basketball court stencil kit. The resealing of the basketball court took place at the beginning of October and the stencil will be applied in the spring.
A new portable hand washing station was purchased through a generous donation by Andrea Miller and Donald Perkins. Andrea Miller and Donald Perkins are the children of long time Village of New Berlin residents Jean and Ruso Perkins. The hand washing station was purchased in honor of their late parents and has a plaque mentioning both parents. The hand washing station will be used during the New Berlin Village Park Program and save the village the rental fees incurred from the annual renting a hand washing station.
Finally, there are plans to repaint the gazebo located at the center of Hyde Park. Lisa Serradilla generously volunteered to reimburse the village for the cost of the paint. As time and weather permits, the village DPW will scrape and repaint the gazebo.
The Village of New Berlin wishes to thank all those that made the repairs and updates to Hyde Park possible. Additionally, the village would like to give a special thanks to the Village of New Berlin DPW crew for their hard work and diligence in seeing the repairs to completion.
