NORWICH – According to businesses throughout the Town of Norwich, change is on the horizon with new restaurants and a large department store chain that is rumored to be coming to the area.
One of the most recent changes can be found at 6142 State Highway 12 in Norwich North Plaza next to evolve fitness where a restaurant with local roots named, “Angela’s” recently opened.
According to Restaurant Owner Angela Titus, this business is a continuation of her father's pizza tradition, mixed with her own style and preferences.
“There are a lot of places to get Italian food in Norwich right now, so we're branching out to cover other foods like gyros and burgers," said Titus. "When I was thinking about what kind of restaurant I wanted, I decided, let's try something different."
After the restaurant's opening weekend, representatives shared a thank you to the community for its support, “Thank you to all the community for being very patient and waiting as long as they all did hope you all enjoyed having us back glad to see everyone today have a goodnight ‘till tomorrow again.”
Along with Angela’s, another restaurant named Odyssey is scheduled to open on Thursday in the old Gus’s Steakhouse building.
Other changes are coming to the South Plaza and Chenango Town Center in the Town of Norwich as well.
According to a representative of Empire Visionworks Chenango Towne Center, in the next few months Visionworks will be moving next to the AT&T building, in the old Olympia Sports store.
The representative said that construction in the old building is already underway.
Town of Norwich Supervisor Dave Evans spoke on the rumors and said, “a few months ago Marshalls applied in the town of signage, but we haven’t heard any more since then.”
The Plaza, located at 5631 NY-12, Norwich, NY 13815, has several businesses including Price Chopper, Advance Auto Parts, and Nazzitto’s Wine and Liquors.
When asked about the new department stores, the representative from Empire Visionworks said they were excited for the change and to move into their new location.
“At the moment it's all still in the works,” said the employee. “There is a large department store that’s rumored to be coming in, and we’re all looking forward to the upgraded space.”
In the opposite plaza, Label Shopper has moved into the old Peebles building. Representatives of the store said they have increased their inventory and hope to be able to provide the community with a larger variety of clothing.
A new Label Shopper banner can be spotted outside of the building. Store representatives said the building is filled with old and new inventory from other Label Shopper locations that recently closed.
