NORWICH – Representatives of local nonprofits met with SUNY Morrisville Norwich Campus college students on Wednesday and discussed the students’ varying missions and ways they’ve improved Chenango County.

The meeting took place Wednesday afternoon at the Norwich Campus’ Community Room. Several college students made presentations to several local non-profits groups. College officials said this was a way for the students to meet with local leaders and inspire the community to get involved.

Students, Kaley Judge, Aubrey Root, Jason Burlew, Cheyenne Miles, Lillian Gallagher, and Amy Walker each discussed different events they helped with that improved the community.

The events included a free lunch program with yogurt from Chobani in the Oxford School District, Fiver Children’s Foundation, Bandera Family Christmas Dinner in Norwich, and JT’s Closet along with peer groups at the Unadilla Valley High School.

Other speakers included the Co-Founder of Improve Norwich Now Jen Westervelt, Chenango United Way Executive Director Elizabeth Monaco, and Unadilla Valley School District Superintendent Robert Mackey.

When speaking at the event, Mackey highlighted the need for community organization and for leadership to be present at educational seminars.
