Edwards wins title at Dan Wickham
SULLIVAN – Five of Norwich’s wrestlers took on the large field of the Eastern State Classic Friday and Saturday and returned home with a sixth place team finish out of 162 team from all over the east coast.
Dante Geislinger placed second in the 113 pound division while Mikey Squires finished third at 170 pounds. Max Morris, Tyler Rice and Andrew Brown also participated in the biggest tournament of the season next to the New York State Championships.
Wrestling in five matches before the finals, Geislinger secured his spot in the championship bout after two pins, a technical fall and two decisions.
In the title match, Geislinger went up against the top seed of the bracket and New York State No. 1 of Division-1 ranking Stevo Poulin.
As the Norwich senior is listed at the top in the Division-II rankings, the match was a highly anticipated match for all to watch.
In a tough match throughout the six minutes of action, Poulin was able to come away with the 7-3 victory.
