Baldwin’s 25 points leads Lady Bobcats past Crimson Knights
Norwich overpowers Forks in first quarter; S-E downed last two games
BAINBRIDGE – The Lady Bobcats got back to their winning way after taking down neighbor Afton Friday night 64-35, picking up a Midstate Athletic Conference victory over the Lady Crimson Knights.
Bainbridge-Guilford jumped out to a 17-4 lead as five of their six players scored in the opening quarter. Celeste Baldwin, who led all scorers in the contest with 25 points, tallied seven in the first while teammate Taylor Parsons added six points.
Afton found an offensive rhythm in the second quarter, putting 13 as a team on the board. During the stanza, Liv Harris-Morris and Sophie Gore combined for all the team’s points as Harris-Morris recorded eight of the points.
Harris-Morris ended the night with 15 points, a team-best for the Crimson Knights squad. Gore added nine in the loss.
As the game went on, all B-G players registered points in the game as the scoring for the visiting team was evenly balanced throughout. The Bobcats racked up 13 assists as a team.
Joining Baldwin in the double figures were Macie Leizear with 18 points and Parsons, who finished with 10.
Bainbridge-Guilford travels to Harpursville on Tuesday for another conference matchup. Game time is scheduled for a 7:15 p.m. start time.
Norwich 84, Chenango Forks 64
BINGHAMTON – The Lady Tornado saw four players finish with double digits in the scoring column while two other contributed nine points in the 84-64 road win over Chenango Forks Friday night.
Norwich scored 36 points in the first quarter and held a 21-point lead by the end of the first eight minutes of play.
The Purple Tornado went into the locker room ahead 50-31 and came out in the second half to score 17 in each of the next two quarters of play.
Chenango Forks finished off the game with a 23-point fourth but the damage from the first quarter by the Norwich team was too much for the Blue Devils to overcome.
The Lady Tornado made 12 3-point field goals over the course of the game, four coming in both the first and fourth quarter.
Margaret Dougher led the team with 15 points while teammates Emily Evans and Abby Flynn each added 14 points.
Maddy Morris finished with 11, a career-high at the varsity level as Abby Hansen and Sydney Coggins each kicked in nine points.
Chenango Forks was led by Bree Fargnoli’s game-high 20 points. Audra Ackerson and Bella Hovancik combined to score another 24 points for the Devils, each tallying 12 points.
Norwich heads to Seton Catholic Monday night for a rematch. The two teams met less than a week earlier with the Tornado coming away with a 10-point win over the Saints. Tip-off for the always physical battle between the two team is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
Frankfort-Schyuler 55, Sherburne-Earlville 49
FRANKFORT – In another tight contest this season for the Lady Marauders, Sherburne-Earlville fell to the host Frankfort-Schyuler 55-49 Saturday afternoon.
S-E held a 14-13 lead after the first quarter but after the Maroon Knights scored 16 points in the second, the Marauders went into the intermission trailing by two points.
The second half saw the home team at the free throw line often, shooting 27 foul shots between the two quarters. Fortunately for S-E, Frankfort-Schyuler made just 13 of those to allow the game to stay with reach for the visiting team.
The Maroon Knights scored 17 in the third and held the visiting Marauders to 11 points, building their lead to eight.
Sherburne-Earlville outscored Frankfort-Schyuler in the final eight minutes of play but it wasn’t enough as the only trimmed two points off the deficit.
Tessa Cole led S-E with 22 points and Maria Albertina added 10 points. Jaci Wright also chipped in eight points. Cole also recorded seven steals and six assists while Albertina pulled down 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double.
Wright also had 10 boards in the Saturday afternoon loss.
Two days earlier, the Marauders hosted Adirondack for a Center State Conference showdown. However, Adirondack went home with the 58-45 victory over S-E.
The Wildcats held a 36-15 lead at halftime but Sherburne-Earlville battled back, chipping away at the lead in the second half.
The home team scored 15 in both the third and fourth quarters to pull within 13 points but that as close as the team came of their opposition.
Cole again finished with a team-best 16 points while Wright scored 12 points in the loss. Elizabeth Peila pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds in Thursday’s contest.
Bella Kranbuhl of the Wildcats ended with a game-high 23 points and also recorded the 1000th point of her career early in the contest. Teammates Cam Roberts and Erica Sanford also finished in double figures, scoring 15 and 10 respectively.
