Bobcats, Vikings earn non-league wins
Marauders downed by Wildcats
BAINBRIDGE – The Bobcats earned a 49-33 non-league win over Davenport Monday night, picking up their second win in the last three games played.
After a slow start to the contest, Bainbridge-Guilford came out in the second quarter to take a five point lead behind a 16-point scoring spurt. During the run, Haiden Burns and Parker Finch combined to tally 12 of the team’s points.
The second quarter push gave the Bobcats the lead for good as the home team held Davenport without a single basket in the stanza following the intermission.
The Wildcats did battle back by scoring 12 points in the fourth but B-G registered 14 in the same quarter to capture the 16-point win.
Burns finished with a game-high 13 points but the Bobcats had balanced numbers in the scoring column with seven different players coming away with points.
Finch ended the night with eight points while Michael Stevens and Kolby Furgason each tallied seven. Furgason also added 10 rebounds and three assists to his statline to lead the B-G in both.
The Bobcats travel to Harpursville on Wednesday when they return to league play. Game is slated to begin at 7:15 p.m.
Adirondack 49, Sherburne-Earlville 42
SHERBURNE – The visiting Wildcats used a 17-9 second quarter scoring run to capture the Center State Conference 49-42 win over Sherburne-Earlville Monday night.
The two teams matched point for point in the first quarter, ending the opening eight minutes of play tied at 11.
With the second quarter scoring surge, Adirondack took the 28-20 advantage into the halftime break. Out of the intermission, the Marauders answered by outscoring the Wildcats 14-12 to chip away at the eight point deficit with one quarter left.
A low-scoring fourth saw Adirondack come out on top 9-8 for the seven point win over host S-E.
The Wildcats had three finish with double figures with Alex Gaylord scoring a game-high 17 points. Teammate Same Koagel and Nate Allen each ended the night with 12.
Sherburne-Earlville’s Robert Hill tallied a team-best 13 points while John Oley finished with 12 points.
The Marauders snagged a non-league victory over the weekend against Bainbridge-Guilford, winning 47-33 on Friday. It was S-E’s third win of season.
Both teams made six 3-pointers in the game but it was Sherburne-Earlville’s free throw shooting that gave them the win. The Marauders were at the foul line 21 times, making 13, while B-G only took two attempts from the charity stripe all game.
Gabe Irwin paced S-E with 21 points while Hill kicked in seven points.
The Bobcats were led by Parker Finch’s eight points and three others had six for the night.
Sherburne-Earlville heads to Waterville on Thursday for a league matchup at 7 p.m.
Otselic Valley 46, Mater Dei Academy 42
CAZENOVIA – The Vikings boys basketball team earned their first win of the season on Saturday, defeating Mate Dei Academy at Cazenovia College 46-42.
In a tight battle all game long, the two teams were never separated by more than six points.
Mater Dei Academy captured a one point lead at the end of the first quarter but Otselic Valley found an offensive rhythm early in the second quarter and went into the halftime break leading 23-21.
OV then held onto the lead until late in fourth quarter when MDA took the lead back. However, the game quickly switched back in favor of the Vikings as Matthew Wetterer hit a basket to give Otselic Valley the lead for good.
Mater Dei Academy fouled late in an attempt to stop the clock and extend the game but the Vikings sealed the deal with four straight made free throws.
“The Viking boys are good enough to win game like this,” said head coach Jacob Preston. “We have to believe in ourselves and continue to find way to win.”
Wetterer led all scorers with 14 points while OV’s youngster Braeden Davis contributed 12 points – all coming from behind the 3-point line.
Otselic Valley is on the road to McGraw Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
