Fund helps increase adoptions at Chenango SPCA

NORWICH – Adoption rates have doubled at the Chenango SPCA since the introduction of the Safe Haven Fund for Animals.
In 18 days, the SPCA has adopted out 40 cats and dogs. This time last year, the shelter had only achieved half that number of adoptions, adopting out 21 animals.
“This increase is strictly due to the Safe Haven Fund for animals,” said Executive Director Annette Clarke.
Clarke explains that in December the shelter had 79 adoptions, and attributes that success to the specials that the SPCA had including adoptions fees being discounted to $25.
However, now thanks to the Safe Haven Fund for Animals, adoptions are completely free with an approved application.
According to the CSPCA this will include all costs associated with an adoption, such as spaying and neutering, vaccines, and the adoption fee. Adoption applications, references and a complete review are still required for all adoptions.
CSPCA is a no-kill animal shelter that provides care for lost and homeless pets, adopts pets to new homes, and educates families and the community about the needs of companion animals. CSPCA serves primarily the residents and animals of Chenango County and the surrounding communities.
