Norwich’s balanced scoring leads to second win in a row
WINDSOR – The Norwich girls basketball earned their second straight win thanks to a 30-point first quarter as they took down the host Windsor Black Knights 77-50 Thursday night.
The Lady Purple Tornado had balanced scoring in the win as Abby Hansen put up a team-best 17 points and Syndey Coggins finished with 16. Abby Flynn added 14 in the win while Emily Evans and Margaret Dougher each contributed nine points.
Coggins kicked off the game with 11 of her 16 points in the first stanza, pacing Norwich to the huge first quarter run that ended with the Tornado ahead 30-14.
Norwich’s scoring slowed in the second as they only tallied nine, led by Evans’ five points. The Tornado finished the quarter scoring just nine but were still able to outscore the Black Knights by one point heading into the halftime break.
The equal scoring throughout the team really shined in the second half of play as Norwich ended each of the the final two quarters with 19 points. The Tornado’s leading scorer of the contest totaled eight in the third and seven in the fourth to drive Norwich’s offense.
