Vikings avenge early season loss to Stockbridge Valley
S-E nearly knocks off divisional leader Clinton
MUNNSVILLE – Outscoring the host Stockbridge Valley Cougars 24-7 in the fourth, the Vikings of Otselic Valley earned the 62-46 league win Tuesday evening.
OV trailed through the first three quarters of play, falling behind 17-11 after the opening eight minutes of play. The second quarter went in favor of the Vikings as they put up 20 points in the stanza, chipping five off the Cougars’ lead to go into the locker room down by a single point.
Both teams’ offensive attacks slowed down in the third as Stockbridge Valley and Otselic Valley each scored seven points, keeping the deficit at one.
The Vikings, however, were able to find their offense in the fourth while the Cougars were unable to get anything going.
OV’s Garrett Wood led all scorers with 23 points in the game and added four steals, three assists and three rebounds to his statline.
Lane Adams and Nicholas Stone each reached double figures in the win as Stone finished with 11 and Adams totaled 10. Stone also pulled down a team-best nine rebounds, falling just one shy of a double-double.
Levi Lyon and Braeden Davis chipped in seven points each for the Vikings.
Stockbridge Valley was paced by Austin Nolley’s 11 points while Ethan Smith and Charlie Cross each finished with 10.
Otselic Valley rebounded from a loss over the weekend, falling to Fabius-Pompey 56-48.
The Vikings held a 21-12 lead after the first but Fabius-Pompey found their way back into the game, taking the advantage at the end of the third quarter by one point. OV was then held to just eight in the final eight minutes.
In the loss, Davis led Otselic Valley with 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Of his point total, 12 came from behind the 3-point arc.
Adams also finished in double digits in the scoring column, ending the afternoon with 11. Lyon kicked in nine points.
Otselic Valley (4-11) travels to Poland seeking back-to-back wins on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. game.
Clinton 55, Sherburne-Earlville 50
CLINTON – In a defensive clash, Sherburne-Earlville nearly defeated the divisional leading Clinton Warriors Tuesday night. Unfortunately for the visiting Marauders, the 20-14 fourth quarter went in favor of Clinton and S-E fell to Clinton 55-50.
The Marauders had to battle their way back into the game after Clinton built a 19-5 first quarter advantage.
Sherburne-Earlville did just that as they rallied to score 16 points offensively while holding the Warriors to just six in the second, taking a 25-21 lead at the break.
After halftime, Clinton outscored the Marauders once again but it wasn’t enough to take the lead back as S-E was still up by one point with eight minutes of play remaining.
Sherburne-Earlville couldn’t hold on in the fourth quarter as Clinton was able to avoid the upset.
Clinton had four players finish in double figures with Tanner Deavens, Josh Wilcox and Edwin Llanos all scoring 12 to lead the team. Brody Glindmeyer ended the night with 10.
Gabe Irwin of the Marauders led all scorers with 19. John Oley added 10 and Noah Posson contributed eight points in the loss.
Sherburne-Earlville hosts Holland Patent on Thursday for their final home game of the season. Prior to the 7:15 p.m. start, head coach Kevin Vibbard will honor this year’s seniors.
