James Powers of South New Berlin announces Assembly Seat Candidacy

SOUTH NEW BERLIN– James Powers of South New Berlin, New York, announces his candidacy for the Assembly Seat from the 122th Assembly District.
Powers spent eighteen years on the Otsego County Board of Representatives, including two as Chairman. His district included the Town of Morris, Butternuts and Pittsfield.
Among his accomplishments, he removed Otsego County from MOSA, the three-county Waste Authority and beginning the process of building a new 911 telecommunication system to replace an antiquated system in order to insure reliable and complete telecommunication systems for emergency services and police.
Education, Healthcare and Agriculture are the backbone of the local economy and are of great interest to Mr. Powers.
He is in favor of natural gas development and the Constitution Pipeline and against Governor Cuomo’s recent pledge to make a permanent ban on gas development. Natural gas is critical to creating jobs in the Southern Tier.
Powers has said that he enjoys public service and being able to help people with their problems. He is proud of his eighteen-year voting record and the ability to provide services without raising taxes.
Powers and his wife Pamela owned and operated a dairy farm and veterinary practice until their herd dispersal in 2017. Currently they have a beef herd, grow sweet corn for local farm stands, and run a 200 hive apiary for honey and almond pollination. They have three grown children and one grandchild.
In his spare time, Powers enjoys hunting and fishing and is a lifetime license holder.
