NORWICH – On Tuesday, January 11, Eighth grade student Leona Tyler won the Norwich Middle School Spelling Bee for the third year in a row. Tyler competed against eight other students in an 18-round spelling bee.
According to Norwich Middle School Principle Scott Ryan, "After an error in the word "prudence", Leona went to the microphone one more time to spell a final word to earn the championship. She successfully spelled the word "coincidence" and won the title of 2020 Spelling Bee Champion."
Leona will move on to compete at the The Daily Star Regional Spelling Bee Competition at SUNY Oneonta. Winners of that event move on the national Scripps Spelling Bee in Washington D.C.
