BOCES Rep: Great careers are available at our local hospital

CHENANGO COUNTY – As part of a county wide effort to encourage Chenango County’s youth to stay local, DCMO BOCES has partnered with organizations including UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital with the intent to provide long term careers to the areas hard workers.

From 5 to 8:30 p.m. on March 12, individuals who have made a reservation and are seeking long term careers will have the opportunity to visit a free networking event at the SUNY Morrisville Norwich Campus. Those interested in the event may make a reservation online at DCMOBOCES.com or by calling (607) 335-1292 by February 28.

According to DCMO BOCES Public Relations Representative Martha Ryan, this is an opportunity for those entering the workforce or individuals seeking a stable job to learn more about the careers available at Norwich’s hospital.

Ryan said there are numerous job opportunities at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital that only require a high school diploma, but could lead to ongoing and paid educational opportunities and more.

“These are jobs that people don’t know exist in our area, and each position opens them up to benefits, career pathways, and different opportunities,” said Ryan. “For many it could just serve as a foot in the door, but for some they may find that the benefits alone are worthwhile.”

Ryan said that the hospital offers tuition reimbursement, and special considerations for those who are enrolled in college along with 10 month long programs that allow employees to receive certifications for career paths including becoming a licensed nurse practitioner, certified nursing assistant, or phlebotomist.

“We want young people to know that they can stay here, and that there are great opportunities here for them,” she said. “This is an event for people who want to better themselves, but we’re limited to 75 spots.”

Ryan said those who are interesting in attending the event should RSVP as soon as possible, and that attendees will have the chance to meet with BOCES representatives, the Morrisville Norwich Nursing program, BCC Adult Education, the UHS Chenango Memorial HR team, the New York State Department of Labor, the Chenango Health Network team, and officials from Mohawk Valley Community College.
