S-E downed by Beaver River in first round section game

BEAVER FALLS – In the first round of the Section III Class C tournament, the Sherburne-Earlville boys fell to the sixth-seeded host Beaver River 60-32 Friday night.
The Marauders struggled to score on the offensive end of the floor, only mustering up as many as eight points in each of the first two quarters of play.
Out of the halftime break, S-E’s John Oley and Robert Hill each scored a basket to tally the four points in the third.
In the fourth, Sherburne-Earlville found their offensive rhythm with 12 points in the stanza but it was too late as Beaver River held a 23-point lead going into the final eight minutes of play.
Hill led the team in the scoring column, putting up 14 points in the loss. Oley also finished in double figures with 10 points.
The Marauders played with out stand-out point guard Gabe Irwin after the senior suffered an ankle injury in practice on Wednesday. Irwin was one of S-E’s leading scorers this season and has been the floor general for the Marauders for several seasons.
Beaver Rivers’ Lincoln Becker led all scorers in the win with 21 points. Becker was good from behind the 3-point line, sinking five shots from beyond the arc in Friday’s contest. He also went a perfect 4-for-4 at the free throw line.
Zachary Mast of the home team chipped in 12 points to finish with double digits as Beaver River received balanced scoring throughout the team.
Sherburne-Earlville amassed a season record of 9-11 overall.
