Military historian to discuss history of the Second Amendment

NORWICH – Ed Erickson, retired Lt. Col., of the United State Army is scheduled to host a talk on the history of the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution, and to discuss contemporary American history regarding the origins and role of colonial militias.

The talk will start at 6:30 p.m., on March 2, at the Bohemian Moon located at 103 East Main Street in the City of Norwich. Those who are interested in attending are recommended to call (607) 334-9480 to make a reservation or for additional information.

According to event organizers, Erickson has a doctorate in history from the University of Leeds, and will present the myth of Minutemen fighting with personally owned weapons as a cultural meme and counterfactual history.

Organizers said Erickson will also discuss the historical context of Article One, Section 8, which includes the army and navy clauses, and how the Second Amendment actually came to be.

The presentation will be followed by a 35 to 40 minute question and answer session, and an optional buffet starting at 5:30 p.m.
