Norwich BID accepting donations and applications for relief fund
NORWICH - The Norwich Business Improvement District (BID) is accepting donations and applications for its Downtown Norwich Relief Fund with a goal of helping local businesses during the coronavirus pandemic.
According to Norwich BID Executive Director Ann Coe, the mission of the BID is to foster a vibrant downtown Norwich, and its vision is a productive downtown Norwich that is an exciting place to live, shop, work, play, and invest.
Coe said the BID has created the Norwich Downtown Relief Fund to provide assistance to local businesses and organizations that are within the boundaries of the BID district that are most affected by disruptions resulting from COVID-19.
“Many of the small businesses and organizations in the downtown district have had to close their doors indefinitely and we, like many others in the community, worry about their future,” she said. “Monies raised under the stewardship of BID will assist the businesses in these challenging times.”
“Fostering a bright and vibrant downtown district is at the core of the BID’s mission – this fund will help our district, to the benefit of all who visit, work, and live in Norwich, now and in the months ahead.”
She added that the Norwich Business Improvement District is a 501(c)3 and any contribution is tax deductible.
Coe said businesses and organizations within the BID district will have the opportunity to apply for the funds raised through an application. She said the applications will then be reviewed and a one-time grant will be distributed based on the criteria provided.
“Please contact our BID Administrator for the application or with any questions at bid@frontiernet.net,” she added. “In support of this, The Norwich Business Improvement District will match funds donated up to $15,000.”
“All donations for the fund will go directly to the businesses and organizations, and there are zero administration fees.”
She said each of the BID’s board members have also made a personal donation to the Norwich Downtown Relief fund, and that as of Thursday approximately $700 had been raised on their go-fund-me page.
“We all feel passionately about ensuring our downtown not only survives, but is able to thrive after this pandemic event has concluded,” said Coe. “Anyone wishing to donate can make checks out to Norwich Business Improvement District, and please include Norwich Downtown Relief in the memo area.”
She said donations can be sent to Norwich Business Improvement District 15 South Broad Street, Norwich, NY 13815.
Donations can also be accepted through Venmo @Norwich-BID or PayPal at paypal.me/NorwichBID, or the BID’s gofundme page gofundme.com/f/downtown-norwich-relief-fund.
Coe asked that donors please submit their charitable donation no later than May 20, 2020
The Norwich Business Improvement District is bounded roughly by Cortland and Mitchell Streets on the north, Eaton Avenue and Front Street on the south, the railroad tracks on the east and Guernsey, Elm and Maple Streets on the west and some adjacent areas.
