Woman dies following crash in Coventry
COVENTRY - A Smithtown woman passed away Saturday night following a motor vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer.
According to New York State Police Troop C Public Information Officer Aga Dembinska, at approximately 9:51 p.m Saturday night, New York State Police at Sidney were dispatched by Chenango County 911 to the intersection of State Routes 206 and 235 in the town of Coventry for a report of a crash involving a pick-up truck and a tractor trailer.
Dembinska said when troopers arrived, members from Coventry Fire and EMS were already on scene performing life saving measures on the passenger of a Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck. She said the passenger, Michelle Lieberman, 46, of Smithtown, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
She added that the driver of the Silverado, William J. Derosa Jr., 52, of Islip Terrace, sustained minor injuries. He was transported to Wilson Hospital, along with two children, ages 7 and 12 who were also in the pick-up truck at the time of the accident.
Dembinska said the driver of the tractor trailer, Robert M. Anderson, 64, of Lisle, was not injured.
Dembinska added that an investigation revealed that Derosa Jr. was traveling on State Route 235 when he failed to stop at a stop sign and struck an Alnye truck. She said the Alnye truck was traveling on State Route 206, and DEC Spill Recovery was notified for a diesel fuel that was spilled onto the roadway.
She added that the investigation continues however, alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash.
