CHENANGO COUNTY - With warmer weather finally hitting the southern tier, and cabin fever setting in from quarantine, families and individuals are ready to get outside.

Now that Chenango County has moved into phase two of the New York reopening, more summer activities are becoming available.

Rogers Conservation Center walking trails are open to the public from dawn until dusk. Recently Rogers shared on their Facebook page that their strawberries are in bloom.

"Soon they will produce strawberries to feed our wildlife at Rogers Center. Seeds from the fruits are spread though droppings of animals. You can spot these flowers in grass, on the sides of trails, and on road sides," sposted the Rogers Environmental Education Center on Facebook.

There are also trails for hiking, areas for fishing, and water for kayaking and canoeing at Chenango Valley State Park, Hunts Pond, and Bowman Lake.

Limited camping opportunities are available at Bowman Lake. According to the Bowman Lake officials, "Existing 2020 camping reservations are a go beginning June 1 at New York State Park campsites, cabins, and cottages. This means you must have an existing reservation to camp. Can you book a future reservation? Yes, but only for a limited number of full-service cottages and full hook-up RV sites. These will be available to reserve starting June 1. New reservations for full-service cottages and RV sites are expected to fill quickly."

Ice Cream shops are now opening for the season, including Lindy's ice cream shop and Dusty's Bar and Grill in Norwich, Hoppies in Oxford, and Tastee Treats in Sidney. Even though most of these facilities are outdoors, customers are still being asked to wear a mask and follow proper social distancing protocols.

Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville is now open to foot traffic. The park opened for drive-thru tours about two weeks ago, then on May 27th the park announced it was preparing to open up for foot traffic. The park officially opened on the 30th. Drive-thru tours are still available on Thursdays between 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. through the month of June.

According to the Animal Adventure website, "Rave reviews were received from guests concerned with the virus, and also care providers for the vulnerable & limited mobility guests. With a goal of inclusion, we will keep the drive-thru zoo experience available for the month of June, revisiting its need again in July for possible continuation."

The Unadilla Drive-In is open for their 2020 season. The theater is open Thursday through Sunday from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. The theater highly suggests a reservation, and has notified customers that their reservation policy has changed.

According to the Unadilla Drive-In Facebook page, "Unfortunately, we found that roughly 40 percent of online reservations made for opening weekend were not fulfilled, with no notice. Therefore, we are changing our reservation policy, to ensure all spots are occupied by those who reserve them. The reservation cost includes one adult ticket plus a reservation fee. This reservation is non-refundable, and all other guests will be billed at the gate on the day of the reservation. All spots are first come first serve, so if you have a spot in mind, be sure to arrive early."
The reservation fee is $1.53. If interested in making a reservation visit the drive-ins website by going to https://unadilladrivein.simpletix.com.
