Chenango County DMV reopening postponed by state

CHENANGO COUNTY - The Chenango County Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) was scheduled to be open by appointment on Monday, but DMV representatives said New York State shut the process down.

According to Chenango County Clerk Mary Weidman, a miscommunication between county and state DMV’s created confusion over when reopening by appointment would be allowed. She said regional phases are different than what governor’s reopening guidelines are for New York State employees.

“Now we will be taking appointments effective the week of June 22 we will be accepting appointments for office visits which will start June 29,” said Weidman. “At this point the County Clerk’s Association and Executive Committee are working with the state and the DMV office to try to open earlier than that, but we’re going to have to wait and see what happens.”

Weidman said the Chenango County DMV was notified on the weekend of May 30 that their office would not be allowed to reopen despite a previous conversation that led office leaders to believe otherwise.
