Helping Hands Norwich seeks nonperishable food and hygiene items

NORWICH - Helping Hands Norwich is hosting a collection night to help increase its supply of nonperishable food and hygiene items in preparation for the donation night later this week.
According to Helping Hands Coordinator Lorri Race, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, volunteers will be at the Norwich Family YMCA collecting greatly needed donations for this Thursday’s donation night.
In a statement Race said that there are three different ways people can donate including online at Amazon, in bulk with delivery, or bagged with delivery. She said now more than ever the need for donations is present in her community.
“With the hard times that have fallen on our community, the need for donations is greater than ever,” said Race. “We appreciate your support and continued kindness to those in need.”
“We will be practicing social distancing and no one will be allowed inside the YMCA.”
She asked that those with donations please use the back of the Norwich Family YMCA, on the Walgreens side to drop donations off.
She said the collection night marks a return to the monthly donation night that drew in hundreds throughout the months before the coronavirus pandemic shut everything down.
She added that the next donation night will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 15 at the Norwich YMCA.
