Bicyclist dies following car accident in Greene

GREENE – A man cycling on State Highway 206 in Greene was confirmed to have passed away on Saturday following an accident the day before.

According to Greene Fire Department Chief Phil Mirabito, emergency responders received a 911 call at approximately 4:52 a.m. Friday morning reporting that a man on a bicycle had been struck by a vehicle on NY-206 east of the Village of Greene.

Law enforcement confirmed that the following day bicyclist Chad Shields succumbed to his injuries while in Wilson Hospital.

Mirabito said immediately following the accident the nearby roads were closed, and they remained closed until approximately 9 a.m. He said around that time the New York State Department of Transportation and Chenango County Sheriff’s Office took over the scene.

“All lanes were closed between Stein Road and Hogsback Road for several hours after we arrived,” said Mirabito. “One individual was transported to a Binghamton hospital with serious injuries.”
