NORWICH – The Norwich Family YMCA has announced that as membership continues to return, it will host its 39th annual Turkey Trot virtually from November 22 to November 26, and individuals can participate from anywhere.
According to Norwich Family YMCA Executive Director Jamey Mullen, this year’s Turkey Trot represents a family tradition and fundraiser to help support the work of the Norwich Family YMCA during this most challenging time.
“By registering you will continue to keep this community and family tradition alive and well while supporting the great mission of the Norwich YMCA,” said Mullen. “All athletes who register will be mailed a YMCA face mask, a YMCA lanyard, and a bottle of hand sanitizer.”
In September, Mullen explained that the Norwich Family YMCA was down approximately $320,000 due to the impact of the coronavirus. Late last month he said that membership continues to return slowly, and that the community center has been able to continue into the next phase of its reopening plan.
“We are happy to report that our membership base is slowly returning and our facility is filled with positive sounds of excitement, exercise, encouragement and smiles even though we can’t see them,” he added.
Mullen said that the water fitness classes in the swimming pool have been reopened, and each class is limited to nine participants and the instructor.
“Social distancing will be in place and additional requirements will be in effect as we begin with classes in the pool,” he said. “We will be following guidelines as established by the State Department of Health.”
“We have not had to limit class sizes in the past so this is something new for all of us and we apologize for any inconveniences that you might encounter.”
Class participants can register online using the "Setmore" link below, in person at the desk or by calling the front desk.
The reservation link for water fitness classes, lap lanes, fitness classes, racquetball courts and the basketball baskets are located on the Y’s website and https://norwichfamilyymca9622.setmore.com/.
“Please feel free to reach out to us with any specific questions as you transition back to the YMCA,” said Mullen. “We are here for you.”
